Lee Young-Ae

Abstract
This study is a case study of long-term play therapy for the child exposed to severe parental marital conflict. The treatments consisted of 119 sessions for the child, 13 sessions for the mother, 8 sessions for the father, 3 sessions for the couple, 1 session for the grandmother and 15 sessions of cognitive learning therapy for the child. The main approach was child-centered play therapy. The client used games, drawing, sand box play and storytelling techniques in order to deal with her inner problems. In the middle of the treatments, cognitive-behavioral therapy was used because the client was capable of describing verbally her problems and situations. This case consisted of 4 processes. In the first process, the client used game play; in the second process, the client used games and verbal expression; in the third process, the client expressed her inner problems more concretely through storytelling; and in the fourth, the client expressed her capacity through structured game play. Through these processes, the issue of somatization, which was the client`s main problem, was reduced, cognitive ability was increased, peer and mother-child relationships were improved, and adjustment to school life was improved.
